Destiny 2, What I Know

Destiny is an odd game for me, at first I thought nothing of it. A bit of a letdown and way to much grind, but after the addition of “The Taken King” that all changed. I found myself absorbed in the weapon cycle and constant chaos of the Crucible. In short, I was hooked and the recent news of Destiny 2 sent my gamer heart aflutter, September 8th can not come soon enough. With that said I figured why not compile the new features coming with Destiny 2.

Weapons-
The biggest change is the revamped weapon system, where Destiny 1 used Primary, Secondary, and Heavy, Destiny 2 will use Kinetic, Energy, and Power. Kinetic and Energy weapons will have some degree of overlap with things like assault rifles and scout rifles, on the other hand, power weapons will consist of things like fusion, sniper, and rocket launchers. The new weapons we’ve seen so far are the chain-gun and grenade launcher.

Classes-
No new classes have been revealed but we have seen new supers for the three existing classes. Warlocks get a Sword-based move by the name of Dawn-blade that is used to attack enemies from above and shoots glorious bursts of fire. Titans get Sentinel, which is essentially Captain America mode. Sentinel gives the player a shield to bash foes with and has the added ability to be thrown for distance damage. Lastly, Hunters get Arcstrider, a super that bestows the player with Jon Woo-esc acrobatics and a bow-staff to swiftly and stylishly take out the baddies.

Planets-
Bungie has made a point of adding more to do on planets than just Patrols. Adding four new worlds to explore will also spice things up. The new worlds are Titan, Io, Nessus, and Earths European Dead Zone (I know it’s not technically a new planet but it’s huge). Exploration is a big focus for Bungie in Destiny 2 and these planets will include actual towns and NPC’s who give quests instead of weird flashing probes in the ground like the first Destiny. One last new addition is the ability to travel from location to location without having to go to orbit.

Multiplayer-
Bungie is introducing Clan support to aid the endless matchmaking loop of trying to find a good raid group. Crucible will sadly only be 4v4 so will either see a lot of previous game types disappear or be altered to some degree. One of the new modes is called Countdown but what exactly it is unknown to me.

Beta-
The beta will be available to everyone sometime this summer but if you pre-order the game you will have priority over standard players.

Before you ask, no, unfortunately, your progress and unlocks will not carry over to Destiny 2, although your appearance will. PS4 will have timed-exclusive content until at least fall 2018. Destiny 2 on PC uses Blizzard’s Battle.net platform and supports 4K resolution and uncapped frame-rates. Bungie has also partnered with Razer for Destiny 2-themed peripherals.

There will be several different special editions. A Digital Deluxe Edition comes with a Legendary sword, emote, and Cabal-themed emblem.
